Fetal Positioning & Breech Release Services

I help Pregnant women achieve easier birthing through optimal fetal positioning

Let's help your baby get into an optimal position for pregnancy & birthing.

I offer personalized visits that assess and address the issues that may be holding your baby in a less-than-ideal position.

Breech babies are often held by issues related to the nervous system, muscles, ligaments, fascia and pelvic/spine posturing.

Crystal Bailey CNM

Nurse Midwife & Naturopath

I've attended births as a midwife for over 18 years, and I am passionate about getting babies here gently and the mother being able to tap into her powerful body function in birthing.

Midwives all over the world are hands-on throughout the pregnancy and birth, assisting babies to be in good positions. The US has developed a fear of touching the uterus, and fear of helping babies turn. They've got it all wrong; they wait, generate fear and then trying to force babies. Mothers and babies are meant to relax into our hands and care as midwives, and in this safety and attention, a baby will get head down and a mother will feel good about birthing. It is the complexity of the modern woman's experience and the failure of the OB system that are leading to so many breech babies. If no one has helped you prevent one, then I may be able to help you fix one, and this obviously works better the earlier the work is done. -Crystal

I combine energetic, homeopathic, & embodiment techniques to help your body relax. I energetically &  physically work on the body, the uterus, and the baby's position.

My techniques are very integrative and not like hospital ECVs. I find babies turn by their own movement after releasing the uterus.

Fees: $325, Repeat sessions $250

You are booking a 90minute session. Occasionally we go shorter or longer because I need to see a certain level of release in the maternal body before I will approach a uterus and baby and ask it to shift anything.

What will the session include?

I personalize the session to each client.

I try to learn things about you to gauge which techniques I will do first to bring relaxation and balance into the body and spirit.

When I feel the physiologic relaxation is in the body, I work on the uterus to bring relaxation and round out the shape, releasing it from the hips and the ribs. I may help baby disengage from a stuck position if it's not optimal position and will create hold on the uterus or baby that help a baby shift. The pressure can be very light if I feel energetic work is neeeded, or I will go in deeper if I feel there is physical need, but that depth is achieve through slow "sinking in and shifting", which is why women don't feel pain.

At the end of the session, I have a very good understanding of what's going on in your body and my advice and homework to you will be personalized. Even if baby didn't turn, this all is very valuable to the process of potentially baby turning on it's own or with ECV.

Energetic work

Much of my method is intuitive. I flow in energetic, embodiment and naturopathic ways. Sometimes I know people are not open to that, but when I can sense you are, this is how I do my deepest work to help you unblock patterns in your psyche, heart, and body. I am deeply concerned about the babies and understanding what they need to have gentle, loving births, and sometimes I sense baby has a stuckness. As a midwife, I have cultivated a lot of sensitivity to the journey of the mother and the understanding of the baby, and I believe a holistic approach to nurturing both is needed. The lack of nurturing and protecting mother and baby is the very cause of many breech babies.

Physical work

Sometimes a body is quite tight and the nature of that body is to return to tension physically and emotionally. These bodies need a lot of nervous system and musculoskeletal support. I use Spinning Babies and massage techniques to really get into the hips if the pelvis needs opening for the head to settle in it. For the uterus, I only do hands on work after 1hr of pre-work to help body and mind to release. A tone uterus sometimes wants massage, but usually it achieves softness through softness in how it is approached. When I can easily move my hands into a soft uterus, I can hold the baby into shifted dynamics, and I will do so as it feels a baby needs that to overcome where it may be stuck.

Should you see me first, or see me after seeing other practitioners

Great question!! Consider a few things:

  • 30-36wk is the best time to work on fetal positioning.
  • We want to release things before babies get too stuck. Don't wait after 36wks.
  • Mamas with tone uterus' (all first time moms) and some other "workout" type bodies or anxious nervous system types: Your babies are hardest to turn and the head may be up in your ribs. I recommend you work on releases first. I highly recommend chiropractic and massage. If you can get Mayan abdominal massage, even better. If you are 34wk+, do get in with me ASAP, but we may need multiple sessions to repattern things enough to release and shift a baby. You really need to work on diaphragmatic breathing and stop any chest breathing. Your back and hips need relaxed too.
  • Mamas with relaxed uterine tone (those "carrying low")- The baby position may be unstable in this relaxed uterus, but may go head down eventually. I find the pelvis posture to be important, so head to your chiropractor, and come see me too after 32-34 wks. Basically, you can give a little more time for head to settle down, since time helps. These babies are easier to turn, so my technique is perfect to help them gently head down before the late pregnancy breech stress has providers mentioning scheduling cesareans.

Location

321 W. Hill St, Decatur GA 30030

I have an office at the Historic Scottish Rite building in Oakhurst. GPS will bring you to the street parking in front of the building. There is a "321" sign. If you enter in this front of the building, come downstairs to the lower level and you'll find my office on the left of the hallway. If you park in the back, enter under the veranda where you see the "Pregnancy Massage Center" sign.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing where you can expose your belly and be active, ex. tshirt and leggings.

Who to bring

An important part of the session is helping you experience and tap into the deeper primal ways of being in the body and allowing the body to unravel the tensions that it knows are holding things. I find many women with breech babies tend to be in their head a lot, so it's particularly challenging to get this depth with someone else as an observer. You are welcome to bring someone... just know what works for you. A coffee shop is across the street if they want to wait elsewhere.

Prior to session

1. Hydrate really well; add sea salt. The more amniotic fluid, the more chance baby can move around.

2. Spend as much time as you can in the hands-knees position. Crawl, rock, sway, do inversion. I'd like you to focus on moving your air and out of your lungs fully in this position too, creating a proper diaphragmatic breath.

Please share with your chiropractors, doulas and midwives that I offer this services  we can help more babies have a chance for gentle births.

Atlanta Breech Resources

I recommend the following practitioners. Many more exist, but here's a few good ones I'd like to highlight in the Atlanta area for breech cases.

massage

Charlotte Scott-  does abdominal massage, specializes in breech. Sees clients downtown at Atlanta Birth Center

Reid Coffee- combines massage, fascia release and mayan abdominal massage. Sees clients in Decatur/ Emory area

Pregnancy Massage  Center- gives good massages to get into hips and tight area. Sees clients in Oakhurst (same building as me!)

Chiropractic

Midtown Family Wellness- near Piedmont Park. Very flexible with scheduling.

Lotus of Life- in downtown Decatur. BGI technique is light touch, nervous system calming

PT

Where You Are PT- in downtown Decatur or does home visits. She uses some microcurrent tools that can help release tightness and deal with root-cause issues such as scar tissue from past injuries in the body.

Acupuncture

I'm not familiar with one particular place being better than others, so see what works with scheduling. I like acupuncture if dysfunction or chaos has been in body or life recently. They can also perform Moxibustion, which is magical for grounding the body and allowing babies to flip head down.
